Diabetes Research Program: A Statewide Collaboration

The Diabetes Research Program coordinates an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach that is focused in the College of Medicine programs in both Tucson and Phoenix, involves multiple partners and affiliates including:

  • University Physicians Healthcare (UPH) Hospital and Clinics
  • University Medical Center (UMC) in Tucson
  • Carl T. Hayden and Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care Systems
  • Arizona State University (ASU)
  • Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen)
  • National Institutes for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
  • The Arizona Telemedicine and Tele-Health Programs, which already link with sites throughout the state, to provide diabetes education and distance care.

This assembly of expertise, experience and spirit of collaboration is unique, and it is essential toward realizing the goal of becoming the premiere center for diabetes care, education and research in the southwestern United States. Also contributing to this vision is a team of clinicians affiliated with the Diabetes Research Program who are providing care for the many Arizonans with diabetes, directing clinical research studies and training the next generation of diabetes providers.
