We Want to Create a ‘Do Tank,’ as Opposed to a Think Tank
Nationally recognized health-care experts Denis A. Cortese, MD, (left) and Patrick Soon-Shiong, MD, discussed the urgent need for health-care reform and their vision for the future before more than 200 AHSC faculty, students, deans and administrators at the College of Medicine general faculty meeting in February.
Dr. Cortese, retired president and CEO of the Mayo Clinic, heads the Health Care Delivery and Policy Program at Arizona State University. Dr. Soon-Shiong is an internationally renowned researcher and surgeon and founder of the National Coalition for Health Integration, which seeks to improve health for individuals through the creation of a national network for the secure sharing of biomedical information.
During their day at AHSC, Dr. Cortese addressed UA medical students during a lively morning discussion. He also met with UA Vice President for Health Affairs William M. Crist, MD, and AHSC leadership, as well as College of Medicine Dean Steve Goldschmid, MD, and department chairs, among other activities. In addition to participating in the forum, Dr. Soon-Shiong met with the UA College of Pharmacy Senior Management Team.
