The College of Medicine reaches out to communities throughout the state in a variety of ways. A few examples are:
Along the U.S-Mexico border, UA College of Medicine students make home visits and assess community health-care needs.
Through the Rural Health Professions Program, medicine, pharmacy and nurse practitioner students receive part of their education at rural sites statewide.
Through the Arizona Telemedicine Program, high-resolution video imaging allows AHSC specialists to provide medical consultation to rural physicians and other health professionals to improve patients’ lives.
The Arizona Arthritis Center brings much-needed osteoporosis screening to rural communities, work sites, reservations and nursing homes.
The Arizona Health Sciences Library, considered one of the best libraries of its kind in the nation, works with health professionals, public libraries, health departments and community groups statewide to improve access to high-quality health information.
The UA College of Medicine – Phoenix plays a unique role in community education by hosting provocative public forums on current medical and health-care issues.
