GUIDELINES FOR LCME VISITING MEDICAL STUDENTS
It is our policy that visiting students from medical schools accredited only by the LCME or U.S. osteopathic medical schools will be allowed to participate in our Year IV electives given the following conditions and procedures (these guidelines are not guarantees of approval): For LCME students, starting with the 2010/2011 academic year, The University of Arizona will be using VSAS, the Visiting Student Application Service, to receive visiting student applications. Applications may be submitted through VSAS starting on May 1, 2010. To apply to our school, please complete and send us a VSAS application for your preferred electives and dates. GUIDELINES FOR OSTEOPATHIC VISITING MEDICAL STUDENTS
For Osteopathic Students, for the 2010/2011 academic year, we will continue to use our paper application (see below). Applications are being accepted starting May 1, 2010 for the 2010/2011 academic year.
1. Space Availability: Participation in any fourth year elective will be allowed on a space-available basis with The University of Arizona medical students receiving priority placement in the elective.
2. Limitation Of Credit/Weeks: Students may enroll for a maximum of 18 weeks.
3. Student Status: Students must be in their final year of medical school and have completed all core clerkship courses at the time of the scheduled elective.
4. Malpractice Insurance: Proof of professional medical liability with coverage amounts NO LESS THAN $1,000,000/claim and $3,000,000/aggregate must be submitted with the application (either a copy of the current certificate indicating policy amounts or a letter of proof from your school indicating policy amounts).
5. Immunizations: Students must include with their application:
-proof of immunization (since 1980) against measles and rubella,
-a recent TB test (within 1 year of elective start date),
-documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination or a signed declination form.
6. Personal Health Insurance: Students must include with their application proof of personal health insurance (send copy of insurance card).
7. Application Fee: There is a NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee of $125.00 PER ELECTIVE. Your NON-REFUNDABLE fee must accompany your application. Failure to do so will cause your application to be considered incomplete. Please make checks payable to: The University of Arizona. Cash will not be accepted.
8. Completion: All the above documents and requirements must be met in order for your application to be considered complete and available for consideration.
9. Application Processing: Upon receipt of your completed application, it will be forwarded to the appropriate department for consideration. When the department has approved or denied your application, you will receive a copy of the finalized application and a temporary housing list . Housing arrangements must be made directly between the student and the homeowner.
10. Please bring your own stethoscope, white coat, and ID Badge from your home school. We will provide library privileges, reduced fee for parking permit and recreation center upon arrival. After Orientation, please come to Student Records Room 2107 to complete paperwork.
11. Please review the required HIPAA Post Test & Confidentiality Agreement for University Medical Center.
