Visiting Student Admissions

From LCME- or COCA-accredited medical schools

It is our policy that visiting students from medical schools accredited only by the LCME or COCA will be allowed to participate in our Year IV electives.

For LCME or COCA students, The University of Arizona College of Medicine uses VSAS, the Visiting Student Application Service, to receive visiting student applications. Applications and any supplemental documentation must be submitted through VSAS. To apply to our school, please complete a VSAS application for your preferred electives and dates.

For more information, visit the VSAS website or contact VSAS at or (202) 478-9878.

From international medical schools

The University of Arizona College of Medicine does not allow international students to enroll in our courses. However, if a student is well-known by one of our faculty members and that faculty wishes to directly supervise the student in an education activity here, then the faculty member may apply to the Dean of the College of Medicine for permission to sponsor the student. If an international student does not have such a relationship with one of our faculty members, we will
not consider their request.

Please send an email to indicating the name of your University of Arizona faculty sponsor and department. Upon receipt of this information, we will send an application to the address you provide.

HIPAA for visiting students

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Privacy Rule establishes the conditions under which protected health information may be used or disclosed by covered entities, and defines the means by which individuals will be informed of uses and disclosures of their medical information (as well as their rights to access information about them).

Visiting students must complete the HIPAA compliance training module below.

UA SafeRide

UA SafeRide serves the needs of the University community by providing a free, safe ride for UA affiliates when traveling alone on campus at night and by providing educational workshops and programs on campus safety.

UA Alert is a free service that delivers emergency alerts to registered students, faculty and staff —as well as friends and family—via their cell phones, mobile devices and/or email accounts during a campus emergency. UAlert is the most efficient and timely way to receive notifications about critical incidents affecting any of the University of Arizona campuses. Register online to receive any all-campus notifications that are sent. If you are affiliated with the UA South campus or the College of Medicine – Phoenix, you can sign up to receive alerts specific to those campuses as well.
