All faculty and staff are responsible for accessing the information made available to them, in order to have an informed and meaningful voice in the directions for their unit or for the COM broadly. They can and should work through their unit heads for decision making, and for channeling feedback to central administration. To state this in another fashion, the unit head is the repository of the feedback, and brings that information to central administration. Sporadic communication from individual faculty to central administration, particularly if that communication is predicated on incomplete or incorrect facts, is not an effective way to manage change.

The College of Medicine wants to avoid creating or propagating myths about what is or is not happening, based on word of mouth, then arriving at decisions based on those myths. Therefore, we have created a document entitled “Myth Busting in the College of Medicine,” which we hope dispels some of these rumors and myths.

I encourage all of you to participate actively in communication and decision making, through your unit heads, using the information made available to you. If you have suggestions about the processes outlined above, use those the same channels and processes to provide feedback.
