Caroline P. McCall, Class of 1993
Hey to all former classmates!! I love hearing about what you all are doing. I hope 2013 and the years to come bring you health and happiness!
We are still living in Birmingham, AL after moving here following the match in ’93. I am attaching a photo from our daughter Leslie’s joyous wedding to Andrew two years ago. They met at Harvard medical school and both are completing training in Seattle (she in PICU, he in IM). We are thrilled at the upcoming birth of our first grandbaby, and it’s a girl, due mid-August! So excited!! Lathan, our middle son is a fourth year at Einstein in NYC and he is set on surgery, despite my extolling the virtues of pathology! Our youngest boy, Alex (born during the baby boom of fourth year!) is a chef at a gourmet restaurant here in Birmingham. I retired last year from Pathology/dermatopathology. Really loved the practice but had a lot of issues related to MS and a previous thoracotomy for a benign paraspinal tumor. However, I am hanging in there, enjoying retirement and hopeful for new therapies that are on the horizon for 2013. Gerald is still working as a software analyst and loving that!
I moved back to Tucson and am joining Silverbell Pediatrics this month. One son is back from the Peace Corps and working on his MPH. The other is at the end of third year of med school at UA. One stepson just got his Masters in Forestry at NAU and the other is a salesman at Findlay Toyota in Flagstaff. No marriages yet and no kids either (thank you). BTW, did you hear that Mark Lacy (Class of 1983) is moving to Tucson this summer? He is joining an Infectious Disease practice.
I am currently President of the Iowa Medical Society, Director of the Carver College of Medicine’s Rural Iowa Scholars Program (CRISP) and elected Chief of Staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Susan Jones, Class of 1973
I am glad to report that I am able to take some time off occasionally from my practice of Family Medicine with OB and I’m currently in the Galapagos with four of my resident mates and families from Santa Monica Family Practice Residency. (thirty-one years ago) Also got board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine last year, to assist in my directorship of our local hospice. Hope to see everyone at our 35 year reunion!
Life is quite busy but very rewarding. My wife Laina and I have three wonderful kids. Andrew and Vivien will be 3 next week and little sister Harper is soon to be 18 months. Professionally, Arizona Sports Medicine Center opened a much larger office in Scottsdale, 8630 E Via de Ventura with physical therapy and performance training--PrpSports--downstairs. I am continuing to be a team physician for the AZ Cardinals and travel with the team as well as in my 13th year consulting with the Oakland Athletics. Just got back from the Dominican Republic, spending time at the A's facility in La Victoria seeing about 40 young players. Other than travel with the teams, we will likely wait a year or two for our sanity to do any more significant family vacations. Hope all is well with my fellow alumni.
I wanted to share that I am Vice President of the American Academy of Dermatology transitioning into Head of Communications. I have been married to Michael Draelos, a fellow medical graduate of the UA, for 33 years!
