Learning Objectives

• Discuss the evolving landscape of readily available psychoactive substances that can be acquired outside traditional pharmaceutical and illicit drug markets.
• Describe the pharmacology and toxicologic risks of major “gas station” products, including opioid-like, cannabinoid, stimulant and GABA-ergic agents.  
• Recognize the common intoxication and withdrawal syndromes associated with these substances.
• Apply current evidence regarding harm reduction, withdrawal management and treatment of substance use disorders involving these psychoactive products. 

The educational objective of the Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds is to provide health professionals with updates on addiction topics, with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence and patient care. The Addiction Medicine Lecture series is held monthly on a Thursday from noon to 1 p.m.
