Rural Health Professions Preceptor

The Rural Preceptor Teaching Award recognizes an outstanding volunteer physician preceptor from the Rural Health Professions Program, a longitudinal education program designed to nurture interest in rural practice. These primary care physicians practice in small and medium sized communities around Arizona.They precept and teach 1st year, 3rd year and 4th year medical students during rural elective rotations throughout the four years of medical school.

Vernon and Virginia Furrow Awards

The Vernon and Virginia Furrow Awards honors teaching in undergraduate and graduate medical education. This is a peer faculty award. Any College of Medicine faculty member from the Tucson or Phoenix campus may nominate any other faculty member (including himself or herself) for one or all of the Furrow awards in any of five categories:

  1. Basic science teaching in the undergraduate medical curriculum
  2. Clinical science teaching in the undergraduate medical curriculum
