Ed Xia Appointed Assistant Dean for Information Technology

Ed Xia, MBA, has been named the new assistant dean for Information Technology Services at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. Xia will begin his new role on January 6, 2020. 

As the new assistant dean, Xia will lead and manage all information technology services and operations within the college. This includes supporting the technology needs of all faculty, staff and students and serving as the primary information technology liaison with the Banner University Medical Division. 

Xia holds more than 18 years of experience in higher education and is the former senior director of information technologies at the UArizona College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS). 

Under SBS, Xia managed a tech team of 33 members and led information management and technology for more than 1,000 faculty and staff and 8,000 students. 

In 2016, Xia received the UArizona Award for Excellence for his outstanding achievements, which included performing above and beyond normal work responsibilities and his encouragement of team members. Xia’s nominator described him as “managing to develop and cultivate a team that is efficient, organized, responsive and forward-thinking."

Christina Gray, MBA, deputy dean of finance and business affairs, says, “We are excited to have Ed Xia on board. His contributions to the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences have been outstanding and we can’t wait to see what he will accomplish here at the College of Medicine – Tucson.”

Xia holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and management from Nankai University; a master’s degree in management information systems from UArizona; and an MBA in finance and accounting from the University of Northern Iowa.
