On January 22, 2020, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion presented the first Health Equity Grand Rounds to a full audience of faculty, residents and staff. The facilitators presented a relevant case impacted by bias. A robust conversation ensued encouraging each person in attendance to consider the impact of bias in patient care and on health care disparities. Evaluations were supportive of continuing these new Grand Rounds and this opportunity is now available to all departments.
The event was put on in partnership with medical students Raymond Larez and Alexander Alvarez; internal medicine residents and participants of the Spanish Language/Health Care Disparities Distinction Track Jessica Vondrak, MD, Francisco Martinez, MD, and Bradley Bohman, MD; as well as internal medicine residency program director, Laura Meinke, MD.
