Thursday, November 9, 2017Dr. Kathryn Reed, Professor and Head of Obstetrics & Gynecology was honored this Homecoming as the College of Medicine Alumna of the Year.Dr. Reed has been an impactful leader for the College of Medicine, especially regarding women faculty, as well as a national leader for advancing the field of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She is head of the UA Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a maternal-fetal research pioneer and professor who has gained global recognition for her work. She graduated from the UA College of Medicine in 1977 and completed both her residency and fellowship at the UA.Dr. Reed has made great contributions to medicine through her research, teaching, clinical care, mentoring and administrative work. An early fascination with imaging technology drew her into obstetrical ultrasound, leading to worldwide recognition for her pioneering work in fetal cardiac physiology and monitoring, as well as Doppler ultrasound. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology honored her with its National Faculty Award in 2012.
