Education Interests:
Dr. Shi is the director for Inflammatory Skin Disease Research Fellowship Program. She is also the faculty advisor for the Dermatology Interest Group at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson.
Community Interests:
Dr. Shi is dedicated to community and global outreach for the underserved and volunteers with medical students at Tucson's homeless clinics as part of the COM CUP (Commitment to the Underserved People) Program. She has completed medical outreach trips to serve patients in remote areas of India, Burma, China, Vietnam and Mexico.
Dr. Shi serves as the principal investigator on multiple industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical and translational studies.
Her research interest include:
- The effect of targeted topical and systemic therapies for atopic dermatitis, hidradenitis suppurativa, hand dermatitis, and psoriasis.
- Noninvasive evaluation and repair of skin barrier function.
- Optimizing transepidermal drug delivery.
- Oxidative stress in atopic dermatitis and hidradenitis suppurativa.
Her current collaborations at UA consist of:
- The Department of Immunobiology on immune dysregulation of hidradenitis suppurativa, and microbiome alteration in atopic dermatitis.
- The Division of Infectious Diseases on the dermatologic effects of long term treatment for Valley fever (Coccidioidomycosis).
- The UA College of Optical Sciences to develop novel multi-modal techniques to detect and evaluate skin inflammation and barrier defects.
