The award funds a sabbatical for Stefano Guerra, MD, PhD, MPH, to better understand biomarkers that may dictate a child’s developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease late in life.

WellDOM, a U of A Department of Medicine initiative led by the vice chair Serena Scott, MD, MBA, that began this spring with a faculty survey, prompted new departmental faculty awards and recently sparked a chess club, has led to a broader Wellness Council college- and Banner-wide to refocus on interprofessional wellbeing programs and events.

A study published in the journal Obesity led by researchers at the U of A Cancer Center emphasizes the need for improved and standardized methods to measure body fat. The work is the first systematic review to focus on advanced body composition techniques — beyond traditional metrics like body mass index — and their associations with colorectal cancer incidence.
