Convocation is a tradition celebrating the transition of students to practicing physicians as they enter into residency programs. This ceremony includes the academic procession, inspiring addresses, the hooding ceremony and oath recitation. As students partake in this time-honored event surrounded by their families, friends, faculty and staff, they reflect on their academic achievements and the challenges and opportunities awaiting them in their medical careers.

Timeline

Guests should arrive one hour in advance of the ceremony to allow enough time to park, pass through a security bag checkpoint, and find their seats before the event starts.

1 p.m.
Fox Theater doors open 

1:15 p.m.
Students check in at the Roy Place Building east adjacent to the Fox Theater. Students will line up by house and mentor inside.

1:45 p.m.
Students depart the Roy Place Building and process to the Fox Theater.

2 p.m.
The processional begins 

4 p.m.
The ceremony ends 

Parking

We recommend arriving early to ensure parking availability. Visitor parking is available in all Park Tucson garages and surface parking lots for a fee.

Closest Lots:

• Pueblo Garage (33 W E Congress St, Tucson, AZ 85701): Located just 400 feet away, this garage offers many spaces but may fill up quickly on busy days.
• Pennington Street Garage (110 E Pennington St.): About 0.2 miles away, this garage is larger and centrally located to many downtown restaurants and activities.

Tickets

Tickets will be distributed to graduates in the weeks before Convocation. Due to capacity, tickets are limited to 9 per student. Additional tickets, if available, will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note, the event will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.

Seating

Seating is on a general admission basis, with elevator access and designated seating available for guests with disabilities.

Security

Please note that only bags smaller than 12” x 6” x 12” are permitted inside Fox Theater. All bags are subject to inspection upon entry.

Photography

During the ceremony, a professional photographer will capture photos of each graduate as they are hooded. These complimentary photos will be available for download at no cost, and graduates will be notified when they are ready.
