Program Highlights

The Department of Anesthesiology uses the Arizona Simulation Technology & Education Center (ASTEC), a 30,000 square-foot facility designed for interprofessional learning in a high-tech simulated environment. ASTEC features mock operating rooms and is used for all levels of anesthesia training — from basic concepts to advanced crisis management — serving paramedics, medical students, anesthesiology residents and experienced anesthesiologists.

It includes a state-of-the-art interactive human patient simulator by Medical Education Technologies, Inc., linked to standard OR equipment like the Narkomed anesthesia machine and Datex physiologic monitoring system, and equipped with a mock operating room, control room and debriefing area.
