Stanley E Okosun, MD, MS, FACS
Stanley E. Okosun, MD, MS, FACS, is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Surgery's Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns, and Acute Care Surgery. Dr. Okosun also serves as the Trauma Medical Director at Banner - University Medicine South.
Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Dr. Okosun was a trauma and critical care surgeon at the ACS-verified level II trauma center Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. There, he also served as the trauma medical director and the chair of the Nebraska State Committee on Trauma. Additionally, he was a member of the National Committee on Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety as well as the National Committee on Rural Trauma.

Dr. Okosun earned his Medical Degree at the University of Benin College of Medical Sciences in Nigeria. He also has a Masters Degree in Environmental and Public Health. Dr. Okosun completed his general surgery residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University Inova Fairfax Hospital Campus, where he won the Top Teaching Resident in Surgery award. Following residency, he completed his surgical critical care and trauma fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

Dr. Okosun is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. He has publications in the Journal of Trauma and has presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma. He is also currently a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Eastern Association for Surgery of Trauma, and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
For the past several years, Dr. Okosun has participated in the Nigerian Global Medical Initiative at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. He is particularly focused on injury prevention and patient safety, and he takes a strong interest in trauma outreach within the community.
Outside of the operating room, Dr. Okosun enjoys spending time with his family and watching soccer.
