Kayla Bird, DO
Where are you from? Collierville, Tennessee (right outside of Memphis).
Why did you choose the College of Medicine – Tucson Pediatrics Residency Program? I chose U of A for my residency because I loved how easily I got along with everyone during my interview, and I wanted to live and learn in a place different from where I lived and went to medical school. Being so close to the border and in a refugee center gives us the opportunity to see different pathologies not native to the U.S. and has continued to fuel my passion for global health.
What are your current professional interests and career goals? I am interested in a hospital medicine fellowship with a sub-focus on global health! I want to work in an academic center helping teach medical students and residents, and travel every now and then to continue expanding my global health knowledge!
What are your personal interests and hobbies? I love being outdoors, especially in water! Hiking and kayaking are some of my favorite activities! I also love tennis, baking and cooking, and want to get back into playing instruments.
What is your favorite thing about Tucson? I love the scenery here! Seeing mountains in every direction I look is amazing, especially as the sun is setting.
What are your non-medical goals during residency? I want to try as many food places in Tucson as possible before I leave!
