Dr. Fain is passionate about health care, which she believes is a right for everyone. She is the MPI on an R25 MSTEM THRIVE research education grant in aging. As director of two geriatric education grants, the Arizona Geriatric Workforce Education Program and the Arizona Reynolds Program, she contributes to the continuing education of medical colleagues and other health professionals throughout the state. She has mentored over 40 medical students as part of the NIA/AFAR MSTAR fellowships.

Dr. Fain has held multiple local, regional and national leadership roles including as a member of the health network’s governing board and as chair of the board’s quality and safety committee. She is the past-president of the American Academy of Home Care Medicine and Emeritus member of the board of the Arizona Geriatrics Society. She was appointed chair of the Governor’s Aging and Long-Term Care Healthcare Workforce Task Force in 2008 to develop a health care workforce plan to meet the needs of the 21st century and was a member of the Senior and Aging Issue Advisory Council by former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. She served on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Geriatric Medicine Board and American Academy of Home Care Medicine Board and was a member of the National Institute on Aging Behavior and Social Science of Aging Review panel. She is one of three small group advisers for the AGS/ADGAP Tideswell Emerging Leaders in Aging (ELIA) program.

She served as medical director of Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System Home-based Primary Care from 1988-2012 and delivered interprofessional team-based care for aging veterans in their own homes.
