Sierra Stuerman, MD

Resident
PGY-4 Chief Resident

Where are you from? Sioux City, Iowa.

Why did you choose the College of Medicine – Tucson Pediatrics Residency Program? The people really make UA Peds special! From the moment I logged into my Zoom interview, I felt welcomed by everyone I met. This continued throughout my three years here. This program truly caters to everyone’s individual goals and needs. There are ample opportunities to get involved in research, quality improvement and advocacy all while maintaining a community feel.

What are your current professional interests and career goals? My interests include health care economics and improving access to care in rural areas. I hope to do a fellowship in developmental-behavioral pediatrics.

What are your personal interests/hobbies? Now that I live in Tucson, I enjoy hiking, swimming and spending time outdoors (especially in the winter). I am an avid baker but am working on my cooking skills. You can often catch me listening to podcasts, catching up on reality TV, or trying a new restaurant with my husband and co-residents.

What is your favorite thing about Tucson? It’s so hard to choose a favorite! The weather is amazing, the people are super friendly, the numerous restaurants are incredible, and there are tons of hiking and biking trails. And who doesn’t love seeing the saguaros every day?

What are your non-medical goals during residency? My goals are to try as many restaurants as possible, to find the best Sonoran dog in the city, and to explore the Southwest as much as possible.
