The Medical Education Office, or MEO, at the University of Arizona Department of Medicine (also known as the Vice Chair of Education Office, or VCEO) hosted its inaugural awards ceremony for fellowship and residency coordinators June 3.

There are 18 fellowships and two residency programs within the department that train more than 200 physicians in internal medicine, dermatology and multiple other subspecialties from cardiology to rheumatology.

“It was a wonderful moment to acknowledge all of their dedication and impact across the department,” said Bersabe Lopez, one of two MEO administrative leads (including the Division of Cardiology’s Christeana Castro) and fellowship coordinator in the Division of Nephrology.

“These awards were created to formally recognize the dedication, resilience and behind-the-scenes impact our GME coordinators bring to the Department of Medicine. As our programs grow and evolve, so does the need to uplift those who hold them all together,” Lopez added.

Congratulations to all the DOM’s fellowship and residency coordinators. Your services are greatly appreciated on behalf of the department, faculty, fellow staff members and trainees!
