Aging is the quintessential interdisciplinary issue, cutting across basic sciences, cognitive, clinical/translational and health services research.

The aging process itself — what actually happens on the biochemical, genetic, cellular and physiologic levels — remains largely unknown. Differentiating “normal” aging changes in these processes from signs of potential disease is fundamental to our understanding of healthy aging and resilience. The Division of General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine and the University of Arizona Center on Aging are uniquely positioned and have initiated programs to address these critical issues.

Research Areas

CHiLLi Consortium promotes independence and resilience, and seeks to improve health outcomes and reduce disparities for older adults experiencing late-life injury.

The Healthy Brain Research Network promotes cognitive health and addresses the growing number of older Americans living with cognitive impairment.

Project THRIVE builds an inclusive, supportive and safe culture in independent living and assisted living (IL/AL) environments. Research was conducted May 2016 to July 2017.  (Since this project is no longer active, should we remove it?)
