General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine

Department of Medicine
General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine

Research

Our division has been at the forefront of changes in how care is provided to older adults via collaborative studies and research into hearing loss, obesity and diabetes, arthritis, heart conditions, frailty and dementia. Our faculty members contribute to the science of healthy lives and resilient aging.

Education

With a multidisciplinary team approach, we’ve pioneered efforts to train physicians in the care of older adults through our Reynolds Scholar program and by developing “senior ERs” to improve outcomes for older people seeking emergency care. Trainees work alongside our clinical partners at Banner University Medicine, whose palliative medicine program has been consistently rated among the top 50 in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Our division marries the study and practice of medicine across a broad spectrum of care: general internal medicine, geriatrics and palliative medicine. Really, though, it’s simply about care for adults. Trainees will learn to promote healthy and functional lives for all adults — whatever their stage in life. Our faculty are actively involved in medical education, and have received numerous teaching awards.
