DOM faculty celebration lauds achievements of newly promoted
Ten of 17 faculty in the Department of Medicine promoted this past year attended the event hosted at the Arizona Sands Club in the U of A Wildcats football stadium, joined by family, division chiefs and other faculty leadership.

Of the 17 Department of Medicine faculty notified last spring of their promotions with the new academic year, 10 not on service or otherwise engaged were able to attend the annual celebration of their academic advancement.
Professor Serena Scott, MD, MBA, DOM vice chair of faculty development, extols on Danielle Avila, MD, principal investigator for federal grants supporting the Petersen HIV Clinics and the Arizona office of the Pacific AIDS Education & Training Center.

The Sept. 24 event was hosted by DOM Chair James K. Liao, MD, professor in the Division of Cardiology and the Robert S. and Irene Flinn Endowed Chair in Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, along with Serena Scott, MD, MBA, vice chair of faculty development and wellness, and Joseph Alpert, MD, vice chair of faculty appointments and promotion.

- Tushar Acharya, MD, MPH, associate professor in the Division of Cardiology and the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences
- Venkatesh K. Ariyamuthu, MD, professor in the Division of Nephrology
- Joy Bulger Beck, MD, MS, associate professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine
- Amy Klein, MD, associate professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine
- Iyad S. Mansour, MBChB, associate professor in the Division of Nephrology
- Saif Mashaqi, MD, professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine
- Alexander Perry, MD, MPH, associate professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases
- Swathy Puthalapattu, MBBS, associate clinical professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine (who practices at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson)
- Amitoj Singh, MD, associate professor in the Division of Cardiology and the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences
- Daniel Combs, MD, associate professor with tenure in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics
On call the evening of the celebration, Sept. 24, and thus unable to attend, were:
