Department of Medicine
Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship Program
We consider it a privilege to work with fellows, and aim to enhance your professional development, tailoring the program to meet your interests while deepening your knowledge in all areas of endocrinology. We want to inspire you to ask more questions, improve patient care to match standards of care and newly available treatments, and explore new ways to research interesting endocrine issues while getting a top-notch education.
Our ACGME-accredited fellowship prepares trainees to provide superior patient care. Under the mentorship of talented, dedicated faculty, you will receive the guidance and expertise to become an independent practitioner of endocrinology in academia or private practice.
The mission of our two-year Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship is to prepare clinicians for independent practice in endocrinology and to be board-eligible for the ABIM subspecialty of endocrinology. An emphasis is placed on fostering the ability to form and maintain effective physician-patient relationships and work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent patient care.
This program includes an academic and research focus on physiology and pathophysiology of endocrinology disorders.
Our fellowship consists of two years of comprehensive training, encompassing the diverse range of clinical experiences at various locations within Tucson. Fellows are obligated to attend weekly didactic sessions during designated academic time slots. Additionally, they actively participate in monthly multidisciplinary tumor board discussions. Fellows receive in-clinic training on insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors; they also gain practical experience to refine their techniques for thyroid fine needle aspiration biopsies and thyroid ultrasounds in the ASTEC simulation laboratory, as well as in the clinical setting. All fellows are strongly encouraged to engage in quality-improvement initiatives and are provided mentorship for all academic involvement.
Diversity of exposure is the core of our program. Fellows care for patients, receive didactic experiences and perform research at four affiliated sites. This provides each fellow with a broad range of experience working in various environments.
