Transition to Residency Course Requirements

There are a total of 44 units required during the Transition to Residency period. 

In summary, the requirements include:

  • 4 weeks Core Subinternship (sub-I)
  • 4 weeks Emergency Medicine - EMD 845
  • 4 weeks Surgical Subspecialty
  • 4 weeks Application of the Basic Sciences - MED 840
  • 28 units Elective - of which 16 must be Clinical

Optional:

  • Away Rotations (limit on Away Electives is 20 units - This does not include Phoenix)
  • Local electives
  • Phoenix rotations
  • Research

Students must adhere to the 14-day notice add/drop policy for scheduling changes in Year 4; thus, planning your schedule carefully will ensure that you both meet the graduation requirements and stay on track in your career path.​
