VSLO Rotations

Away Electives - VSLO

Away rotations are an option for our Year 4 medical students, and a great way to learn more about prospective institutions and training programs where you would like to apply for residency. Conversely, it is also a means in which program leadership can get to know you as a potential resident.

The two primary resources for students interested in participating in away electives are the specialty advisor and the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) site. The Student Records office will upload any documents requested by the host school on behalf of the student, for them to attach to their VSLO applications. Some example documents include:

  • Official Transcript
  • Letter of Good Standing
    • Includes date of completion for BLS Certification, date of completion for Mask Fit Certification, Malpractice Insurance coverage, and expiration of fingerprint clearance card.
  • Letters of Recommendation
    • Must be sent directly from letter writers to Student Records Office through email or in person.

It is the responsibility of the student to upload their CV, profile photo, and Immunization forms. Once an away rotation has been confirmed, it is important the student immediately turn in their Student Away Elective Selection Form to the Student Records office, in room 2112.

About VSLO

The Visiting Student Application Service (VSLO) is an online application service offered through the AAMC. The service allows students to complete only one short standardized application for students to complete that allows them to apply to as many participating medical schools as they wish. See the VSLO Information for Students FAQ for details.
