Department of Medicine
Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship
Throughout this one-year fellowship, Mohs and other surgical procedures will be performed under the supervision of an experienced American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) approved Mohs surgeon. As the training year progresses, the fellow transitions to greater independence based on demonstrated clinical and surgical skills.
Along with ACGME accreditation, this fellowship program meets the application requirements for membership with the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). The ACMS safeguards the standards of Mohs micrographic surgery by ensuring that fellows-in-training are properly trained so that they will acquire the necessary expertise to perform Mohs micrographic surgery. Programs must meet the specified guidelines both in terms of the program’s director and the program’s site.
ACGME accredited Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology (MSDO) fellowship training programs must pass a rigorous application and review process before being allowed to train a fellow. This training program is not established to be a preceptorship, but rather academically rigorous training grounds presided over by individuals who have proven their commitment to Mohs micrographic surgery, as evidenced by consistent and on-going teaching.
The mission of our three-year Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship is to prepare pediatricians for independent practice in pediatric gastroenterology and to be Board-eligible for the AAP subspecialty of pediatric gastroenterology. An emphasis is placed on fostering the ability to form and maintain effective physician-patient relationships and work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent patient care.
This program includes an academic and research focus on physiology and pathophysiology of gastrointestinal disorders. The gastroenterology research laboratory occupies the entire sixth floor of the Steele Children’s Research Center, which is the research arm of the Department of Pediatrics. The laboratory is fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Throughout this one-year fellowship, Mohs and other surgical procedures will be performed under the supervision of the program director, Jason DuPont MD, an experienced American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) approved Mohs surgeon. As the training year progresses, the fellow transitions to greater independence based on demonstrated clinical and surgical skills.
Fellows work in tandem on a daily basis with the faculty providing continuous feedback and mentoring. The program director will directly observe the fellow conducting patient interviews and physical examinations, as well as performing all cutaneous surgical procedures, including destruction techniques, excision and Mohs micrographic surgery.
