Pediatric Neurology

We are dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of pediatric neurologic conditions through research and education, training the next generation of pediatric neurologists.

Research

The Pediatric Neurology Section supports a growing research mission aimed at improving outcomes for children with neurologic disorders. Our faculty are involved in clinical trials and observational studies that focus on pediatric epilepsy, neurodevelopmental disorders, and the neurologic manifestations of systemic and genetic diseases. Areas of interest include optimizing seizure management in children with complex epilepsy, improving access to neurogenetic diagnosis and exploring optimal treatment modalities for children with migraine headaches.

Education

Education is central to the Pediatric Neurology Section’s mission. We provide dedicated training to medical students, residents and fellows in the recognition, evaluation and management of neurologic conditions in children. Pediatric neurology is an integral component of the University of Arizona Neurology Residency Program, offering residents a structured clinical rotation that includes exposure to outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, neonatal and pediatric intensive care, and pediatric EEG interpretation.

Faculty are actively involved in didactic teaching, case conferences and mentorship, with an emphasis on clinical reasoning, developmental neurobiology and interdisciplinary care models. Our section also supports medical student education through electives and early clinical exposure programs aimed at fostering interest in child neurology.

Through a combination of hands-on clinical experience, academic instruction and individualized mentorship, we aim to prepare learners to deliver high-quality pediatric neurologic care in diverse settings — from academic centers to community-based practices.
