Pediatrics

Medical Education Program

Your six-week clerkship will include an introduction to children, their special medical problems, the techniques necessary to obtain data from them, and insights into growth and development as biologic and medical phenomena, both normal and abnormal.

You will learn to obtain a history and perform a physical examination in children from newborns to adolescents. Interactions with the child as well as the parent or caretaker requires a sensitive attitude, and — depending on the age of the child and their degree of illness — different techniques and skills.

We recognize that you cannot “learn” pediatrics in six weeks, but you will be exposed to children in whatever area of medicine you choose. We only ask you to display an eagerness to learn and conduct yourself as a professional. We hope to share with you the excitement that is inherent to pediatrics.
