WellDOM Chess Club Meeting

When

5:30 – 8:30 p.m., Aug. 18, 2025

Where

As part of the WellDOM Initiative between the Department of Medicine and Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, work is under way with all College of Medicine – Tucson departments to create forums in which faculty, staff, trainees and/or medical students can connect and interact around common interests.

To start, the DOM and AWCIM have launched a chess club, which is being spearheaded by three DOM faculty: Anil Potharaju, MD, Division of Inpatient Medicine, Venkatesh Ariyamuthu, MD, Division of Nephrology, and Talal Moukabary, MD, Division of Cardiology.

“We share the passion a lot of our fellow colleagues have for this immortal game. We thought we should create an opportunity to mingle, enjoy a few games and learn from each other. We believe it will provide a venue for those who are interested to participate in chess-related activities like playing games, solving tactics, etc. We hope we can even have an annual U.S. Chess Federation (USCF-rated) tournament in the future depending on the interest,” Dr. Ariyamuthu said.

The first meet-up was July 7 (click here for news item and mini-photo gallery on that event) at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. The second will be Monday, August 18, 5:30-8:30 p.m., same place. Subsequent dates — all the same time and place — will be Monday, Sept. 22, Monday, Oct. 27, and Monday, Nov. 17.

See this form to RSVP and check for any changes to the current dates planned.
