One of the strongest predictors of professional success is whether someone has a mentor. Each department has a mentoring program, and COM-T programs include the COMPAS (COM Peer Advancement Societies) Program, designed to provide peer mentorship around common professional goals with a senior mentoring facilitator. Learn about departmental mentoring programs and COM-T resources for faculty seeking a mentor, as well as for mentors and departments interested in developing or improving a mentorship program. Several of our outstanding faculty mentors have been honored with the College of Medicine Mentoring Awards.
College of Medicine Peer Advancement Societies (COMPAS)
The Office of Faculty Affairs is launching the next cohort of the College of Medicine Peer Advancement Societies (COMPAS). The goal of these Societies is to provide an opportunity for faculty new to academic medicine to engage in peer-mentoring while also benefiting from guidance from content experts and more experienced colleagues. As a supplement to your departmental mentoring program, COMPAS encourages networking, the development of professional relationships and collaborations across departments.
There is a five-month commitment to this program. Sessions will be held in person the third Wednesday of each month, 10 a.m. to noon, starting on August 15, 2024. Each session will consist of a presentation/workshop followed by small group discussions.
Topics for the workshops will include:
- Building Your Mentorship Network
- Turning Your Passions into Scholarship
- Understanding Communication Styles
- Leadership as an Early Career Faculty
Dates for the sessions:
- August 15
- September 19
- October 17
- November 21

We will be collecting data and requesting feedback from all participants as we work to evaluate and continuously improve the effectiveness of the program.
