Ajuni Kaur, DO, MPH
Where are you from? Ellicott City, Maryland.
Why did you choose the College of Medicine – Tucson Pediatrics Residency Program? When I was interviewing for residency programs, I hated this basic answer ... but it was the people. Even through the Zoom social hour, I was able to see the camaraderie between all the residents, and it was the most memorable part of my interview journey. In addition, training in Tucson, Arizona, provides a unique patient population to treat and learn from. Lastly, I felt that this program emphasized resident wellness in comparison to others.
What are your current professional interests and career goals? I will be pursuing a fellowship in pediatric sports medicine to align my personal and professional goals of helping children stay active and healthy. In addition, I will be staying on for an extra year to be chief resident.
What are your personal interests and hobbies? I love being active. I mostly do this by lifting weights at the gym, but since moving to Tucson, I’ve gotten into biking — The Loop trail makes this so easy. In addition, I love cooking new high-protein recipes with my husband and traveling as much as possible.
What is your favorite thing about Tucson? The year-round sunshine. I can go outside before and after work for most of the year, and that is something I never got growing up on the East Coast. There is so much to do, from outdoor activities to trying new restaurants to taking day trips to discover Arizona’s beauty.
What are your nonmedical goals during residency? I hope to continue keeping up with my hobbies outside of residency, travel as much as possible and continue conquering life with my new husband, which includes adopting a new pup in the near future.
