Alani Safford, DO
Where are you from? Kennewick, Washington
What are your personal interests/hobbies? I like to stay active with yoga, hiking and going to the gym. I enjoy playing tennis, pickleball and golf when I can. I love exploring new places to eat, trying out happy hours and going to concerts. I also like having chill downtime with family, board games and fantasy novels.
What are your professional interests? Global health, ultrasound, street medicine
Why did you choose U of A emergency medicine? The global health focus and Spanish immersion are what initially drew me to this program. I had so much fun during my interview day, and I felt like I vibed well with everyone I talked to. I knew this would be a supportive program with a strong sense of camaraderie and an environment where I would thrive.
What is your favorite activity in Tucson or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? I am excited for all of Tucson’s outdoor activities, the culture and the food scene. Having warm weather year-round is also a huge plus for me.
What are your nonmedical goals during residency? Build friendships, travel and explore the national parks, and pick up new hobbies like learning to crochet and cook.
