Alex Van Morren

Resident, Pediatrics - PGY-1

Where are you from? Missoula, Montana

Why did you choose the College of Medicine – Tucson Pediatrics Residency Program? Having grown up in Montana, the mountains have always been a fundamental part of my life. Maintaining close proximity to the mountains was essential, which Tucson easily provided, along with endless sunny days and a climate suited for year-round running.

What are your current professional interests and career goals? Pediatric cardiology, specifically electrophysiology.

What are your personal interests and hobbies? I am an avid runner, with a passion for ultrarunning and mountain trail running. When not on the trails, I tend to fill my time designing keyboards or audio interfaces from the ground up; rebuilding, restoring and modifying old iPods; or 3-D modeling and printing light fixtures, tools and puzzles.

What is your favorite thing about Tucson? The proximity and diversity of mountain trails with weather to support year-round training.

What are your nonmedical goals during residency? Continue to compete in ultramarathon races and climb as many local peaks as possible.
