Alicia Martinez-Garcia, MD
Where are you from? Indianapolis, Indiana
What are your personal interests and hobbies? Rock climbing both indoor and outdoor, but boulder more often. Hiking. I go in and out of crocheting depending on my mood and whether I have a project in mind. Birds. Finding tasty sours or ciders at breweries. Wineries, too.
What are your professional interests? I’m interested in critical care, palliative medicine and sports medicine.
Why did you choose U of A emergency medicine? I really liked the patient population that we would be working with and wanted to continue strengthening my medical Spanish. I also liked the size of the program and the academics, combined with the community feel of the program. I felt I would be well supported through my training.
What is your favorite activity in Tucson or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? The Catalinas. They’re beautiful to look at and super fun to climb. Mount Lemmon is amazing and very accessible for climbing. It’s very different from Indiana, and I was excited to experience something new.
What are your nonmedical goals during residency? Get outside and continue my hobbies as much as possible. Explore as much of the Southwest as I can.
