Alon Kol, DPM, FACFAS, FACPM, joins the University of Arizona as a clinical assistant professor and the new section chief of podiatry.
Dr. Kol received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and has spent nearly a decade as an attending physician at New York City Health + Hospitals Bellevue Hospital Center & Gouverneur Healthcare Services.
There, he served as the clerkship director and the podiatry residency program associate director while also leading quality improvement projects for the hospital.
We are excited to have Dr. Kol join our SALSA team and our exceptional group of podiatrists said Wei Zhou, MD, FACS, Division Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and the co-director of the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance. We are committed to patient care across Arizona and beyond, and we are committed to the success of Dr. Kol and our SALSA team
As the section chief of podiatry, Dr. Kol will help strengthen foot health care throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona. He brings expertise in minimally invasive podiatric surgery that improves outcomes for patients by simplifying healing and lessening scarring, and he hopes to strengthen the field of podiatry's position as a leader in regenerative medicine.
For a long time, we have focused on limb salvage to address limb-threatening wounds and infections, which often meant treating these conditions when they are already very advanced Dr. Kol said. By focusing on limb preservation using public health education, close clinical monitoring of high-risk patients, minimally invasive procedures, and reconstructive and regenerative techniques, we can address issues before they become limb-threatening, preserving mobility and preventing the cascade of morbidities that follow amputations
Dr. Kol is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America. His research explores public health education, minimally invasive reconstruction and tissue regeneration. Outside of medicine, Dr. Kol enjoys meditation, reading, scuba diving, guitar, cooking, photography and gardening.
