Amy Klein, MD
Dr. Klein is a dedicated leader and educator dedicated to making sure that every clinician has the skills to provide thoughtful, humane care in complex and seriously ill medical situations for every patient. She brings creativity, compassion, and innovation to hospice and palliative medicine.
As program director for the Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship, she is passionate about mentoring trainees to become skilled and compassionate clinicians. Dr. Klein’s commitment to transformative medical education has earned her multiple teaching awards, notably for innovations in communication training for medical students and residents. She strives to create immersive didactics and workshops dedicated to having learners engage with language and communication skills to engage in discussions about serious illness with compassion while upholding humanity. She uses multiple techniques to engage learners with difficult topics, including workshops, art museum-based education and simulation to explore how reflective engagement can help shape trainee skill sets and improve observation, empathy, and coping with uncertainty and suffering.
As medical director of palliative medicine for Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, she guides a multidisciplinary clinical team aimed at expanding the reach and quality of patient care for the most seriously ill patients. She is focused on alleviating suffering through meticulous symptom management, achieving goal-concordant care, and striving for equitable care for all patients with serious illness.
