My Journey with the Medicine Program
When I was applying to UofA I was drawn to this program for so many reasons, and as I continue my journey my passion for becoming a physician has grown! This program has given me the time to explore my interest in emergency medicine, get involved in research, volunteer, and while still having time for my core classes. While this major has rigorous STEM courses, it also has electives which exposes you to many specialties and the healthcare system. Even with the program requiring many STEM courses, I will be able to spend a semester abroad my senior year! This program has also put me in contact with professors currently working in the healthcare field who are open to student shadows! My time volunteering and being involved with clubs on campus has given me a community of other pre-med students to lean on. This is a challenging major but the resources, professors, and my peers help me stay motivated to continue on my path of becoming a physician.
Academic & Career Goals
I am currently pursuing a career as a physician! I am really interested in OBGYN and Anesthesiology! I am currently working as a scribe at an inpatient psychiatric hospital and am involved in clinical research at the BUMCT. I plan on having a gap year where I can participate in more research, use my EMT certification and take my MCAT.
On- and Off-Campus Involvement
- Volunteer: HonorHealth, Phoenix Children's Hospital, and Tucson Medical Center
- Clubs: Women in Medicine and Stem (WIMS) and Tucson Street Medicine
- Research: EMS research at BUMCT
- Study Abroad: Atlantis - MedCats
Ask Me About
This major can seem overwhelming and difficult, but there are so many resources available to you on campus. I have utilized SI sessions, tutors, clubs, and professors as resources and would love to help new students get involved! When I first started I found it hard to to find resources and would love to give people the help I never had.
