David Furniss, MD
Where are you from? Cincinnati, Ohio
What are your personal interests/hobbies? I love running, hiking, cooking, board games, D&D and loyally cheering for the Bengals, Reds, FC Cincinnati and the University of Alabama. Roll Tide! I try to see as much of the world as possible, and I am always planning my next trip.
What are your professional interests? Medical education is my primary professional interest, but there are so many great things to be interested in. I’m also interested in ultrasound, operations, global health and wilderness medicine.
Why did you choose U of A Emergency Medicine? I chose the U of A because it felt like the right combination of rigorous training, strong academic opportunity and genuinely happy people. I was drawn to the chance to train across distinct clinical environments, care for a diverse population and pursue a wide variety of interests within emergency medicine. Most importantly, every interaction I had with the residents and faculty made the U of A feel like a place where I could become the kind of person I want to be personally and professionally.
What is your favorite activity in Tucson or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? I was attracted to Tucson because it feels completely like a new chapter when compared with the Midwest and Southeast. I am looking forward to exploring the mountains and the desert, as well as enjoying the incredible food. As a Cincinnati native, I also look forward to staunchly defending a second regional hot dog style.
What are your nonmedical goals during residency? Road trip to every national park within a 12-hour drive and find the best ice cream in Tucson.
