Diego Rojas, MD
Where are you from?
Fraijanes, Guatemala.
Why did you choose U of A family medicine?
I chose the U of A for its top-tier academics and its focus on the areas of medicine I’m most passionate about: rural health, integrative medicine and outpatient care. Being able to work with such a diverse, underserved community was a huge draw, but the people were the most important factor. Everyone I met throughout the application process was so welcoming and kind, which made the U of A feel like the perfect fit for my training.
What are you most excited about for life in Tucson?
Exploring the food scene and outdoors, enjoying the warm weather and getting to know the friendly local community.
What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?
I enjoy hiking, weightlifting and music.
What are your professional interests within medicine?
Rural health, integrative medicine and medical anthropology.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?
A slow morning to recharge, taking my dogs for a long walk, a good weightlifting session and finishing the day by playing Mario Kart or watching a movie.
What is the top item on your bucket list?
Visiting Northern Spain, including places like San Sebastian, Bilbao, Santander and Oviedo.
