Holly Celaya, MD

Resident
[Block A on U of A Football Stadium]

Where are you from? The suburbs of Denver, Colorado

What are your personal interests/hobbies? Trail running, hiking, thrift shopping, gardening and completing the daily New York Times crossword.

What are your professional interests? Infectious disease, addiction medicine, nutrition and public health.

Why did you choose U of A emergency medicine? I loved my rotation at South. I felt that the residents were super supportive of one another and engaged with the community. I enjoyed the on-shift education and opportunities to connect with the residents outside of the emergency department. The program also has a community feel, but with the resources of a large academic center — it's the best of both worlds. My partner's family is here, and I’ve loved visiting for the winters. I couldn’t think of a better place to begin my emergency medicine training.

What is your favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? Besides basking under the sun in my lizard skin, I can’t wait to explore the endless miles of running trails, bike lanes, national parks, foothills, taco trucks and cacti.

What are your nonmedical goals during residency? Run Rim2Rim2Rim, spot a gila monster, find the perfect mid-century modern dresser and propagate my own citrus tree.
