Irwin Freundlich, MD

The late Irwin Freundlich, MD, was an expert in cardiothoracic imaging and retired as a Professor Emeritus of Medical Imaging. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 1959 and did his Residency in Radiology at Jefferson Medical College Hospital in Philadelphia from 1960 - 1964.

Dr. Freundlich had a long and distinguished career as a Radiologist, serving as Professor of Radiology for the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center (now Banner - University Medical Center) from 2000 to 2011 and as the Training Director of Diagnostic Radiology from 1971- 1982. He also served as Chief of Diagnostic Radiology and Head of the Thoracic and Mammography sections at the UA Medical Center from 1971-1982 and as Deputy Chair for the Department of Radiology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, in Houston from 1989-1993. He returned from Houston to work in the University of Arizona Department of Radiology (now Medical Imaging) until his retirement in 2014. During his career, he was invited to give over one hundred presentations, published in a variety of professional journals, authored four books on Radiology and taught diagnostic radiology lectures to medical students at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson.
