Josh Okwuasaba, DO

Resident/Fellow

Where are you from? Originally from Nigeria, but officially from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

What are your personal interests/hobbies? Soccer, basketball, fitness and yoga. A good Netflix binge-worthy series. Watching movies, reading fiction books and traveling. Cultural immersions, photography, cooking, and hanging with family and friends. Motorcycle riding, learning to play guitar and concerts.

What are your professional interests? Sports medicine, global health and critical care.

Why did you choose UA EM? I wanted the opportunity to learn at a renowned program and from an exceptional EM faculty, in addition to the commitment of the program to the continued pursuit of excellence, diversity, inclusion and training culturally sensitive physicians.

Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? I love sunrise and sunset watching. Biggest attractions for me were the food scene, the weather and the abundance of opportunities for outdoor activities.

What are your non-medical goals during residency? My non-medical goals are to become fluent in Spanish, hike Mount Lemmon a couple of times, and find ways to become involved in my community, including opportunities to give back.
