Lucas Struycken, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging. Dr. Struycken from the University of San Francisco where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Dr. Struycken earned his Medical Doctorate at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and completed a surgery internship with Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Following internship, Dr. Struycken completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency and a Vascular and Interventional Radiology Integrated Fellowship at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine Tucson.

When he is not working, Dr. Struycken enjoys cooking, gardening, weightlifting, drawing/sketching and hiking.

Research Interests

Current Project: Changes in incidental hiatal hernia identified in cross-sectional imaging before and after gastrostomy tube placement. A retrospective review of cross-sectional imaging before and after patients receive a gastrostomy tube. Patients noted to have incidental findings of a hiatal hernia are further evaluated to determine if and how the incidental hiatal hernia is changed after receiving a gastrostomy tube.

Current Project: Percutaneous gastropexy for treatment of symptomatic hiatal hernia in non-operative candidates. A prospective study to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of percutaneous gastropexy for the treatment of symptomatic hiatal hernia in patients who are not operative candidates.
