Why did you choose U of A emergency medicine? One of the biggest reasons I chose U of A emergency medicine was the culture. As someone who was a medical student at the University of Arizona, I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the Emergency Medicine Department, and I truly think that it is the best. The faculty and residents are some of the most welcoming, funny and knowledgeable people I have ever met, and I felt like part of the family from the start. Also, there are many opportunities for basically all of the EM subspecialties, which is a plus.
What is your favorite activity in Tucson or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? Definitely the food scene here. Having spent the last nine years of my life in this city, I quickly learned that there are so many amazing food spots for pretty much any cuisine you could want. Even nine years later, I am still discovering new places that are some of my all-time favorites. Besides the food, there is so much you can do outdoors, from hiking to running on the trails to golfing at some amazing courses. There is pretty much something for everybody.
What are your nonmedical goals during residency? My nonmedical goals during residency are to travel more and pick up some new hobbies. Right now, cycling is at the top of my list of things I want to try. Also, to meet new people and build some new friendships. Breaking 90 in golf would be pretty sweet, too.
