Mamta Kothari
Where are you from? Dallas, Texas.
Why did you choose the College of Medicine – Tucson Pediatrics Residency Program? Tucson has a similar population to San Antonio, Texas, where I attended medical school with my co-resident Rita! Moving to Tucson allowed me to expand on my medical Spanish, serve many underserved populations and practice border medicine. Plus, I am used to the heat!
What are your current professional interests and career goals? My professional interests include social medicine, advocacy and diversity/inclusion. I’d like to apply for fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine and work at a Level 1 trauma center in Houston, Texas.
What are your personal interests and hobbies? I’m a huge foodie/chef (I make my own Indian-Cajun fusion recipes), traveler and reader. I’m currently reading A Cook’s Tour by Anthony Bourdain. I also enjoy archery, ceramics, pottery and taking care of plants.
What is your favorite thing about Tucson? Going out to dinner/events with my co-residents. Nothing but laughs in the city of gastronomy.
What are your non-medical goals during residency? To improve on my American Sign Language, give back by teaching and maintain my curiosity.
