After completing her medical training, Dr. Crispens was an assistant professor at Southern Illinois University in Springfield from 1998 until 2002. She moved to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2002 and rose through the faculty ranks, being named the director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in 2012 and promoted to professor in 2016.

Dr. Crispens has served on several committees of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) and its sister organization, the Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC). She currently serves on the SGO Diversity, Inclusion, and Health Equity Committee and the FWC Education Committee. She was the president of the Felix Rutledge Society in 2015. She serves on the advisory board of OvarCome, an organization dedicated to support of patients with ovarian cancer and funding research to find a cure. She has won numerous patient experience awards, having been named one of Nashville’s Top Doctors every year from 2014 to 2025. Additionally, she has authored over 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Her research focus has been in the conduct of clinical trials for the treatment of gynecologic cancers. Dr. Crispens is most proud of the many students, residents and junior faculty whom she has had the honor to mentor over her career.
