Parker Sullivan, DO
Where are you from? I was born and partially raised in New York City, and I was partially raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.
What are your personal interests/hobbies? Petting my dog, yapping with my wife, reading sci-fi, hiking and trail running, playing music, cooking and grilling, yoga, fitness and weightlifting, biking and snowboarding when there's snow around.
What are your professional interests? I am interested in gaining extra experience to better serve traditionally underserved and marginalized groups through social emergency medicine, street medicine and/or addiction medicine. I also love teaching and could see myself in a role where teaching residents/medical students would be incorporated in some shape.
Why did you choose U of A Emergency Medicine? The two most important things for me in choosing a residency were the people in the residency community and the people in the community which the residency served. On interview day and during my second look, it was clear U of A Emergency Medicine was the perfect fit for both of these for me. In addition to serving a diverse population with a supportive residency family, I love the chance to get experience in academic and community shops, and I feel that the volume, pathology, critical care and PEM experience, and incredible faculty, will allow me to do whatever I want after residency. The amazing location is the cherry on top.
What is your favorite activity in Tucson or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? Outdoor access, Mount Lemmon, sunsets, sunshine, monsoons, culture and diversity, Sonoran/Mexican/Southwestern food, saguaros, javelinas, finally having an elite college sports team to cheer for, and not having to mow a lawn for the next three years.
What are your nonmedical goals during residency? Become more proficient in Spanish, explore Arizona and its many biomes, maintain an active/healthy lifestyle, always create space for my mental health, find the best tamales and jamaica agua fresca, make lots of friends and memories, and keep on growing.
