Patricia Sanchez Montejo, MD

Where are you from? Originally from Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, but my American hometown is Miami.
What are your personal interests/hobbies? I love anything outdoors, lifting and making cards. I enjoy cheese tasting — Manchego is my favorite — and I even named my dog Cheese. Yes, I love cheese that much!
What are your professional interests? I’m interested in critical care and medical education, but I’m genuinely excited to explore different areas and discover what I’m most passionate about!
Why did you choose our program? When I attended one of the hangouts, the residents seemed genuinely happy and shared how well-supported they felt. This stood out to me, as mentorship was a top priority when choosing a program. I was also impressed by how well-organized interview day was — it truly reflected well on the program. Plus, I’m excited about the opportunity to work with such a diverse Hispanic population.
Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? I’ve always wanted to live somewhere with mountains. Growing up in Cuba, I knew I wanted to return to a warm climate — just without the humidity! Having relatives nearby makes Tucson feel even more like home and the perfect blend of everything I was looking for.
What are your non-medical goals during residency? During residency, I’m hoping to keep up with card-making, a hobby I rediscovered in my fourth year of medical school. I also hope to bring my dog, Cheese, along for the ride so we can tackle some outdoor adventures together!
